ExifTool is a freeware metadata reader app and digital camera tool, developed by Phil Harvey for Windows.

The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of ExifTool to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this metadata reading program.

ExifTool is a platform-independent Perl library plus a command-line application for reading, writing and editing meta information in a wide variety of files. ExifTool supports many different metadata formats including EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, JFIF, GeoTIFF, ICC Profile, Photoshop IRB, FlashPix, AFCP and ID3, as well as the maker notes of many digital cameras by Canon, Casio, FLIR, FujiFilm, GE, HP, JVC/Victor, Kodak, Leaf, Minolta/Konica-Minolta, Nikon, Nintendo, Olympus/Epson, Panasonic/Leica, Pentax/Asahi, Phase One, Reconyx, Ricoh, Samsung, Sanyo, Sigma/Foveon and Sony.

Does ExifTool have a GUI (graphical user interface)?

Unfortunately this utility is command-line interface only. But don't worry, it's really not that difficult to use the command line in Windows. Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time and type cmd, then enter. Browse to the directory where you've saved the ExifTool executable and run it. It will display the usable options.

When you run the executable, it will list all available ExifTool commands for you to use.
